JOA's Diary
New single out Friday, January 17th!
January 13, 2025
This Friday, I'm releasing my third single, and I'm excited to share my thoughts about the upcoming track, "A Little Kinder," a track that was born from a very personal moment in the studio. One day, I walked in feeling super self-conscious and critical of myself. I sat down and started writing, hoping to create something that could lift me out of that negative headspace. Ironically, after finishing the song, I found myself telling myself it was "super bad" and "cringe," convinced I hadn't done enough in the studio. But this only fueled me to finish the song, proving to myself that I needed it more than ever.
Growing up, I struggled with self-esteem and often had a hard time looking in the mirror and feeling proud. I've always been my toughest critic. I know I'm not alone in feeling this way, and that so many people struggle with self-criticism. It's tough to speak kindly to yourself, especially with social media amplifying unrealistic standards. That's why I felt this song was so important—especially for younger people who might be going through the same struggles. I was in need of a song like this when I was a teenager, and I hope "A Little Kinder" can serve as a reminder for anyone who needs it now.
In this song, I do the talking for anyone who finds it difficult to be kind to themselves. My hope is that by listening, you'll feel a little lighter, a little more at peace with who you are. This track is my gift to anyone who's been hard on themselves, and I'm so excited for you to hear it.
